USING THE ACID - BASE MAP TO ANALYZE BLOOD GASES

This course is approved for one contact hour through the Georgia Nurses Association which is accredited as an Approver of Continuing Education in Nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center Commission on Accreditation. We will be offering CE Credits effective February 2000.

Learning Objectives

  1. Be able to name the three components that determine the ABG diagnosis.

  2. Correctly diagnose 10 ABGs as being one of the following:
    • Normal
    • Respiratory alkalosis
    • Respiratory acidosis
    • Metabolic alkalosis
    • Metabolic acidosis
    • Combined alklosis
    • Combined acidosis
    • Partly compensated respiratory acidosis
    • Partly compensated respiratory alkalosis
    • Partly compensated metabolic acidosis
    • Partly compensated metabolic alkalosis
    • Compensated respiratory acidosis
    • Compensated respiratory alkalosis
    • Compensated metabolic acidosis
    • Compensated metabolic alkalosis
