ACID-BASE ANALYSIS OF BLOOD GAS VALUES - page 10

Notice how placing the values on the map
pretty much tells you the interpretation

pH = 7.28

CO2 = 62

HCO3 = 29

blood gas map

The pH of 7.28 is acidotic and the acidotic CO2 of 62 tells us that hypoventilation is responsible. The HCO3 of 29 is alkalotic and represents partial compensation as the kidneys respond to this respiratory acidosis by retaining HCO3 in an effort to raise the pH: A PARTIALLY COMPENSATED RESPIRATORY ACIDOSIS
