ACID-BASE ANALYSIS OF BLOOD GAS VALUES - page 11

Notice how placing the values on the map
pretty much tells you the interpretation

pH = 7.21

CO2 = 32

HCO3 = 8

blood gas map

The pH and HCO3 are both acidotic, telling us we have a metabolic acidosis. The CO2 of 20 is alkalotic as the lungs work to blow off CO2 and raise the pH and partly compensate for the deeply acidotic HCO3 of 8 mEq :
A PARTIALLY COMPENSATED METABOLIC ACIDOSIS
