ACID-BASE ANALYSIS OF BLOOD GAS VALUES - page 13

Notice how placing the values on the map
pretty much tells you the interpretation

pH = 7.45

CO2 = 67

HCO3 = 46

blood gas map

Another blood gas with a normal pH and abnormal CO2 and HCO3. The pH and the HCO3 are to the alkaline side of normal. Therefore, we will consider this to be a metabolic alkalosis. The HCO3 is strongly alkalotic at 46 mEq and is the primary cause of this abnormal ABG. The CO2 of 67 mmHg is the respiratory system's successful compensation of this metabolic alkalosis :
A FULLY COMPENSATED METABOLIC ALKALOSIS
