- Basic EKG required. Prior CV drug course/strong experience preferred.
Providing intelligent nursing care to cardiovascular patients rests on a thorough understanding of hemodynamic variables. Then you can relate the arrhythmias you already know to the effects they are having on preload and afterload. This will help you understand the reasons for the treatments we have (or would like to have).

This course and its textbook includes:

  • Risk factors that damage the endothelium and lead to atherosclerosis throughout the body
  • Assessment of pulses, cardiac output, heart sounds, breath sounds, ABG results and a thorough arrhythmia review.
  • Information your patient will want to know about tests of their CV system-echocardiogram, EP testing, MUGA, stress echo, EBCT coronary calcification score and more.
  • Recommendations for prevention and treatment with CV drugs, devices and procedures.
  • Angina - differentiating variant, Prinzmetal's spasm angina from classic angina pectoris.
  • The acute coronary syndromes (ACE) through QWMI. Introduces 12 lead EKG's and recognition of STEMI and NSTEMI in various locations.
  • Prevention and treatment of peripheral vascular disease and cerebrovascular disease
  • Valvular disorders and valve repair and replacement.
  • Infectious diseases of the hearat such as infectious endocarditis and pericarditis.

Quizzes and a comprehensive post-test will help you let your preceptor know where your knowledge and skills are solid and where you need further information and/or practice.
